HomeBoat Policy

2024 AGN Boat Policies

The AGN employs boat policies to promote beach preservation and the sustainable use of Clark Beach and its environs.

All boats must have a valid sticker, which can be purchased only by an AGN member in good standing. Boats without a 2024 sticker, or boats stored in locations other than those permitted, are in violation of this policy and may be removed.

Please note: AGN property is private and by law extends to the mean low tide. The Town of Ipswich has jurisdiction regarding moorings in tidal waters, that is, any area impacted by the tide. Municipal and state law prohibits moorings in tidal waters above mean low tide. All mooring permits are issued by the Ipswich Harbormaster.

AGN takes and assumes no responsibility for any boats on Clark Beach.

Prams/Kayaks

AGN places racks on Clark Beach to create an orderly manner of storing non-motorized prams and kayaks. In 2024, the majority of racks for prams and kayaks will be located on each side of the Clark Beach parking lot boardwalk, while one (1) will be placed at the North end of the beach near the Bowdoin Road parking lot.

Prams and kayaks are permitted from mid-May to mid-October. The length of prams shall not exceed 12 feet.  Kayak length may not exceed 19 feet.

A pre-determined number of prams and kayaks are allowed each year.  In 2024, 110 prams/kayaks will be allowed at Clark Beach.  AGN will monitor the racks starting in June, and may sell additional stickers if it appears that there is available space.

To put a pram/kayak on racks, a boat owner must:

  • Be a current paid member in good standing of AGN,
  • Purchase a pram/kayak sticker (accepting the AGN Boat Policy) and
  • Adhere the sticker to the right, front edge of the boat that is visible when stored.
  • Pram/Kayak must also be clearly marked with owner name and contact information per Town of Ipswich regulations.

Starting in January when the membership renewal begins, AGN active members may purchase one pram/kayak sticker.

Prams and kayaks can be placed on racks on Saturday, May 11th following rack installation.

Please note that pram/kayak stickers are not transferable and are only intended for use by the member who purchased it (they cannot be bought for use by another member or non-member).

Prams and kayaks cannot be located at any time on the beach and must be stored on the racks provided by AGN. Additionally, at no time can the pram/kayak be in the marsh or sea grass, including during launch. They are not to be stored in the grass, on the ground, or in the tidewater.

Any violation of this policy by the pram/kayak owner may result in the removal of their boat from Clark Beach, although AGN will attempt to contact the owner (if known) first. AGN will place a violation notice on any prams/kayaks that do not have a valid AGN sticker.  After one week, the pram/kayak may be removed to the parking lot.

All prams/kayaks must be removed from Clark Beach by October 28. Any pram/kayak left on the beach after that date will be removed to the parking lot. AGN will make a reasonable attempt to contact the owner (if known), but any pram/kayak left on the property at the end of the season may be auctioned off with proceeds donated to the AGN Scholarship Fund.

Sailboats

AGN will allow up to four (4) small sailboats at the North end of the beach near the Bowdoin Road parking lot.

Starting in January when the membership renewal begins, AGN members may purchase one (1) sailboat sticker for $150 on a first-come, first-serve basis.

To put a sailboat at Clark Beach, a boat owner must:

  • Be a current paid member in good standing of AGN,
  • Purchase a Sailboat Sticker (accepting the AGN Boat Policy), and complete a Boat Application Form (please contact AGN's Membership Director for additional information).
  • 2 stickers will be provided; adhere one sticker to the right, front edge of the boat that is visible when stored and the other on a visible location on the dolly.
  • Sailboat must also be clearly marked with owner name and contact information per Town of Ipswich regulations.

Sailboats cannot be longer than 15 feet in length.

Sailboats can be placed on the beach starting on Saturday, May 11th.

Sailboats must be stored only in the AGN-designated area.

Sailboats must be stored at least 4 inches off the ground on wheels, a dolly, or a rack and must avoid any contact with beach grass. They are not to be stored in the grass, on the ground, or in the tidewater.

Sailboat stickers are not transferable and are only intended for use by the member who made the purchase.  They cannot be bought for use by another member or non-member.

Any violation of this policy by the sailboat owner may result in the removal of the boat from Clark Beach, although AGN will attempt to contact the owner (if known) first. AGN will place a violation notice on any sailboats that do not have a valid AGN sticker. After one week, the boat may be removed to the parking lot.

All sailboats must be removed from Clark Beach by October 28th.  Any boat left on the beach after that date will be removed to the parking lot.  Any boat left on the property at the end of the season may be auctioned off with proceeds donated to the AGN Scholarship Fund.

NOTE: The maximum number of boats of any kind that an AGN member can store on Clark Beach during 2024 is two (2).
